Although all insurance plans make lipedema coverage harder than it should be, Medicare and Medicaid have always presented additional challenges for lipedema patients. Coverlipedema.com can get these insurance plans to cover lipedema surgery directly or on a short appeal because it is medically necessary, not cosmetic or unproven. However, both plans pay surgeons so poorly that most plastic surgeons are unwilling to perform lipedema surgery under these plans. Because of these challenges, we decided to pause accepting new Medicare and Medicaid members at the end of last May to reevaluate our approach and develop a more effective strategy.
Our New Strategy: the Medicare/Medicaid Process
Our new strategy is called the Medicare/Medicaid Process. It is based on our innovative Coverage Plus Process but with features designed to overcome the special challenges of Medicare and Medicaid, including additional advocacy to ensure faster coverage. We have hired a dedicated Medicare and Medicaid Ambassador to help members access insurance-friendly plastic surgeons and get their documentation together promptly.
This membership includes our Appeal and Network/SCA Processes, as well. The Medicare/Medicaid Process Membership will be available to prospective members starting September 3, 2024. To ensure we have enough resources to help members, we will only accept 50 new Medicare/Medicaid Process members every six months. The membership fee is $1,099 and can be financed.
Current Members with Medicare and Medicaid can Upgrade Now
Current Coverage Process members with Medicare or Medicaid can upgrade for only $899 through Labor Day (September 2nd). Coverage Process Members can upgrade by selecting “Upgrade My Membership” from the Coverage menu. Note that the Medicare/Medicaid Process includes the Appeal and Network/SCA Processes, valued at $1,098. This upgraded membership can also be financed.
